A modern and flexible e-commerce store
Coffee Collective is a Danish specialty coffee roastery and coffee bar chain that since 2007 has focused on sustainable quality coffee with emphasis on close collaboration with their coffee farmers. Today, Coffee Collective includes several coffee bars, a bakery, and a growing online business, reaching even more coffee lovers around the world. Coffee Collective is known for their sustainable processes and has been a certified B Corp since 2019. Their webshop offers a selection of coffee beans, brewing equipment, and subscription options, delivering exceptional coffee experiences to customers worldwide.
The Task
As Coffee Collective grew, they faced challenges with their existing e-commerce setup. Increasing platform costs, limited flexibility, and high dependence on developers created the need for a more scalable solution. The challenge was twofold: to create a user-friendly, mobile-optimized webshop with modern payment options and a flexible system that would give Coffee Collective greater control over updates and customizations, allowing them to focus on their passion for sustainable quality coffee.
The Solution
The solution for Coffee Collective was a completely new and customized webshop, along with an improved digital visual identity. Shopify was chosen as the CMS, providing Coffee Collective with a scalable, cost-effective, and user-friendly platform. The new setup reduces reliance on developers, making it easier for Coffee Collective to manage and customize their webshop moving forward.
Designed to support both B2C and B2B sales, the solution encapsulates Coffee Collective’s strong storytelling, values, and visual content. With a mobile-optimized platform, a familiar checkout process, and improved product categorization, customers can navigate seamlessly, while Coffee Collective has gained more freedom to tailor their text and video content. The implementation of ReCharge, a subscription platform integrated directly with Shopify, has further strengthened their subscription solution, enabling customers to effortlessly renew their coffee subscriptions and ensure a continuous supply of quality coffee. In addition to being user-friendly and intuitive, Shopify’s functionality is well-proven, providing Coffee Collective with a stable and reliable solution.
The new website design embodies a high-end, calm, and minimalistic aesthetic, drawing inspiration from Nordic design principles. The color system has been refined to create a harmonious digital experience, ensuring optimal display across screens. Just as their physical stores embrace diversity, the website reflects this by offering a dynamic and inclusive user experience.
A key focus is on barista expertise and the lifestyle surrounding high-quality coffee. The subscription flow has been simplified, making it more intuitive and seamless for users. Additionally, the product detail pages (PDP) have been optimized to highlight the farmers behind the coffee, reinforcing transparency and authenticity. This new approach strengthens the brand’s storytelling while enhancing usability and engagement.
Result
The new Shopify setup has enhanced Coffee Collective’s digital presence while supporting their strong brand and passionate values. The Shopify solution has reduced dependency on developers, lowered platform costs, and created a more user-friendly experience for customers. The new webshop is not only more scalable, flexible, and visually compelling—it also ensures smoother operations, allowing Coffee Collective to focus even more on what matters most: delivering sustainable quality coffee and crafting a thoughtful experience for coffee lovers.
